Marjoram Essential Oil
The Origanum majorana is part of the Lamiaceae family that is native to Mediterranean regions, such as Turkey. It is low growing and spreading, reaching about 1-2 ft in height with a circumference reaching 30-60 cm. Its leaves are small, oval, and gray-green that are soft to the touch. In the mid to late summer months, the plant will produce clusters of tiny flowers that range from pale pink to white.
The Ancient Greeks called marjoram "joy of the mountain" and often made garlands, bouquets, and wreaths for weddings. The Ancient Greeks also planted Marjoram (Sweet) on grave sites because they believe it would bring peace to the dead. This plant has a very uplifting and beautiful aroma.
